This will be the final newsletter for 2011. I would like to start by saying a personal thank you to all of you for a wonderful year here at Holy Cross. Starting in a new school is always a challenge but you have all made my transition to the new space so comfortable and so easy really. This is a great community to be a part of and I have really appreciated your support in my first year as I assimilated to the new space. Thanks for your patience when I have not known things or when I’ve got things wrong! I would especially like to say thank you for the overwhelming support, kindness and generosity you have shown my family during what has been a difficult year. I know lots of families in our school community have had real challenges and hardships this year, yet you all support one another so well. Thank you.
I would like to wish all families a very safe, happy and holy Christmas. I hope you are able to find some time to attend some of the Christmas ceremonies and really enjoy the true spirit of Christmas. Have a wonderful New Year and see you all back and well in 2012. |

Our Year 6 students had a beautiful Graduation ceremony and celebration on Tuesday evening. Thank you to the Committee which worked so hard over many weeks preparing the event. Thank you to Mrs. Dwyer for the Mass preparation and for her part as Co-ordinator of the Graduation Committee. Congratulations to a wonderful group of students finishing at Holy Cross this year. The children’s work ethic, behaviour and example to other students is to be commended. Thank you to our two School Captains, Eamon Cooper and Erica Vandenberg. They have both shown wonderful leadership and support of their fellow students all year. They have been great ambassadors for our school.
I would like to take this opportunity to commend the wonderful staff we have here at Holy Cross.Teachers and support staff at this school work so hard to provide a truly exceptional learning environment. The school enjoys very good results in school based, State and Federal testing and this is due to the collaborative approach between home and school which exists here. But more importantly the students are happy and enjoy the stimulating, learning environment which the teachers strive to provide. Thank you for the way in which you support our staff and our programs.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed for good weather on Monday evening for our Spirit of Christmas concert. If the weather is bad we will relocate to the Gisborne Secondary College hall. As our school is now so big we are struggling to find a venue close by that can accommodate us. Gisborne Secondary College has kindly allowed us to use their space if need be. We plan to take our school stage down to the hall so that hopefully everyone can see this year. A very big thank you to Mr. Faraci for the great work he does with the children in Performing Arts and for the huge effort he has put into preparing the children for the concert this year.
